At the beginning of November 2025, students of the Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Teaching at the University of Navarra took part in a session dedicated to Global Citizenship Education presented by one of the two Spanish partners of our project, the NGO Coopera. The training, led by Tula Ruiz, the project coordinator for northern-central Spain, explored the lines of action that the GET project is developing in European schools and how these initiatives can be integrated into teaching practice.
During the session, participants examined international experiences that inform the project, with examples from universities in the United States and Canada where teacher training incorporates approaches related to social justice, cultural diversity, and environmental sustainability. This overview helped situate our project’s work in a comparative context and provided a deeper understanding of its contribution to the current educational debate.
The session also dedicated time to analysing the project’s relationship with the Spanish regulatory framework. Participants discussed aspects of the LOMLOE (Ley de Orgánica de Modificación de la Ley Orgánica de Educación, the latest education law in Spain) that align with this approach and watched the video testimony of a teacher from the Global South committed to environmental education, whose experience showed how local initiatives can generate meaningful change even in settings with limited resources.

Students also had the opportunity to learn about the Teaching and Learning Units designed by Coopera on climate change, migration, global inequalities and gender inequality. Using these materials, they carried out a practical activity in which they created short content pieces using digital tools and audiovisual formats popular with young audiences.
The session helped connect the theoretical framework with real examples and everyday classroom practices. It also opened up a space for reflection on the role of teachers in the face of global challenges and on the need to incorporate more dynamic methodologies that resonate with the forms of communication students engage with in their daily lives.
Through the GET project, we support prospective and current teachers across Europe in addressing global challenges by providing training opportunities, seminars, and freely accessible educational materials.
